How Many Dancers Should I Hire?

How Many Dancers Should I Hire?

This is a question I get asked A LOT. The answer is… it depends. It completely depends on your specific needs. Not to worry though! I help clients weigh their options and choose the best entertainment for them. Here are the questions I ask clients to help them narrow down their ideal entertainment situation.

How large of a space do you have?
If it’s a large space, like a large ballroom, then it’s best to try to fill that space with a lot of dancers, as a soloist or a small group will get swallowed up. With enough notice, you can hire a large group of five or more dancers, which will allow a higher energy level, multiple costume changes, and more dynamic choreography.

If you have a small space, like a backyard patio or a living room, then it’s possible that only one dancer may fit. A soloist can provide an engaging show in a small space, that’s entertaining and gets people dancing. (This is also something you should tell any company you hire in advance, because it will be helpful for them when they plan their show to know they can’t fit certain props or costumes into a space.)

What kind of atmosphere do you want for your event?
If you are having a small gathering with only a few guests, then we recommend one or two dancers. If you are expecting 100+ guests, then three dancers or more may be better suited to engaging a large crowd. Generally, the more exciting you want the show to be, the more dancers you should hire.

What is your budget?
This is also a huge factor for determining how many dancers you should hire. If you have a large budget, then you can consider multiple types of entertainment. You may be able to hire a show with a large group of dancers, as well as gogo dancers, party pumpers, or candy girls. You have the luxury of choice in this case.

If you have a tighter budget, then you may be limited to one or two dancers, but fear not! Companies have all sorts of ways to make a large impact with fewer dancers. For example, a single dancer or a duet can use a prop like an LED wings to take up more space and add an eye-catching flare.

Is there a special ceremony or entrance?
If there is an entrance for a special guest, a bride and groom, or birthday celebrator, then having a group of dancers escort them into the venue is a perfect way to get a party started. The dancers can provide a show later as well, which can be the perfect catalyst to get guests dancing.

If you want the dancers to pull a special guest on the dance floor or award stage, then one-three dancers are perfect for this as well.

Often we get asked to entertain at events like corporate parties or award ceremonies. Helping guests on stage or to their seats is the perfect way add a rich and exciting flair. Typically at least two dancers is ideal for such events.
